How to Open Iron Doors in Minecraft

In this article, we have explained all the things you need to know about opening iron doors!

The way you use to open wooden doors in Minecraft will not work for iron doors, opening iron doors is a little complicated, and you have three ways to open iron doors in Minecraft.  

The three ways are:

  1. By using a button
  2. Using a lever
  3. Using a pressure plate

Opening iron doors using a button:

The first way involves a button, and you need first to craft any of the buttons, when you have crafted a button, open it in your Hotbar, 

To open your door you need to place the button near the door, so position your pointer on a block next to the door.

The game control to place the button depends on the version of Minecraft

  • Right-click on the block for, Java Edition
  • Tap on the block for, pocket edition
  • For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the LT button.
  • Press the ZL button present on the gamepad for, Wii U.
  • Press the ZL button for, Nintendo Switch.
  • Right-click on the block for, Windows 10 edition.
  • Right-click on the block for, education edition.

When you have placed the button correctly now you have to activate the button to open the door, remember when the iron door will open, it will only open for few seconds and close with its own.

To activate the button, you need to press the exact same button you pressed to place the button. 

When you activated the button, the iron door will open. 

How to open an iron door using a Lever

 The next method to open an iron door is using a lever. When you pull the lever down the iron door will open, and when you pull the lever back, the iron door will close. The door will not close automatically as it closes with the button. 

To start, you have to craft a lever of your own. When you have completed, please select it from your Hotbar. Position your pointer to the block next to the door, and place your lever at the right place.

The game control to place the lever depends on the version of Minecraft:

  • Right-click on the block for, Java Edition
  • Tap on the block for, pocket edition
  • In Xbox 360 and Xbox One, Press the LT button.
  • Press the ZL button present on the gamepad for, Wii U.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button.
  • Right-click on the block for, Windows 10 edition.
  • Right-click on the block for, education edition.

When you have pressed the right button, the lever will be placed, and the next step is to pull the lever down to open the door.

To pull the lever down press exactly the same button you pressed to place the lever, and the iron door will be opened. 

When you have opened the iron door, it will remain open until you pull the lever up again.

How to open an iron door using a pressure plate 

 The final method involves using a pressure plate to open an iron door, the availability of pressure plates in Minecraft is of 4 types; you can use any of them to open an iron door.

  1. Oak pressure plate
  2. Spruce pressure plate
  3. Birch pressure plate 

First, you need to craft any pressure plate, then select it in your hot bar. To open the door with less difficulty, You have to place the pressure plate in front of the door.

The game control to place to place the pressure plate depends upon the version of Minecraft.

  • Right-click on the block for, Java Edition
  • Tap on the block for, pocket edition
  • In Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the LT button.
  • Press the ZL button present on the gamepad for, Wii U.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button.
  • Right-click on the block for, Windows 10 edition.
  • Right-click on the block for, education edition.

Now to open the iron door, you have to stand on the pressure plate. The iron doors will stay open while you are standing on the pressure plate; once you step down of the pressure plate, the iron door will close.
